The Names
of Jesus

Each name is a window into who he is: the One who counsels, saves, shepherds, gives life, and reigns forever.

“Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name.” Philippians 2:9

Four names spoken by the prophet

“For a child is born to us. A son is given to us; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
01

Wonderful Counselor

His wisdom is not merely sound advice. It is wonderful—beyond us, yet given to us. Jesus knows the Father perfectly and leads his people in the way of life.

02

Mighty God

The child in the manger is no powerless symbol. In Jesus, divine strength has come near: strength to conquer sin, bear judgment, defeat death, and keep all who are his.

03

Everlasting Father

The Son’s reign bears the steadfast, protective care of a father. His covenant love does not age, tire, or fail; those under his rule are held with tenderness forever.

04

Prince of Peace

He does more than quiet troubled hearts. By his cross, Jesus makes peace between God and sinners, and his kingdom will finally make all things whole.

05

The Bread
of Life

“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.’”John 6:35

Jesus is not an addition to life’s table; he is its bread. He gives himself to the hungry soul and satisfies a need that success, pleasure, and possession can never reach.

06

The Light
of the World

“Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.’”John 8:12

He reveals what darkness conceals: the holiness of God, the truth about us, and the path home. To follow Jesus is not merely to see the light, but to walk in it.

07

The Good
Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”John 10:11

His goodness is proved in self-giving love. He knows his sheep, calls them by name, goes before them, and does not flee when the wolf comes. The Shepherd becomes the sacrifice.

08

The Resurrection
and the Life

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.’”John 11:25

Resurrection is not only an event Jesus performs; it is found in his own person. Death meets its master in him. Everyone united to Jesus shares a life the grave cannot keep.

09

The Way, the Truth,
and the Life

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.’”John 14:6

He does not merely point toward God. Jesus himself is the road home, the truth made known, and the life of the age to come. In him, the Father opens his house to us.

10

The True Vine

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.”John 15:1

A branch bears fruit by remaining, not by striving to become its own source. Jesus is the living root of every grace in his people; apart from him we can do nothing, but in him life flows.

11

The Lamb
of God

“The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’”John 1:29

God himself provides the Lamb. Jesus willingly bears sin away through his sacrifice, spotless and sufficient. The One worthy of all worship is the One who was slain for us.

12

The Alpha
and the Omega

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”Revelation 22:13

Before the first word of creation, he is. Beyond the last page of history, he remains. Jesus holds the whole story together; nothing precedes him, outlasts him, or escapes his purpose.

13

King of kings
and Lord of lords

“He has on his garment and on his thigh a name written, ‘KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.’”Revelation 19:16

Every crown is beneath his crown; every authority answers to him. The Lamb who humbled himself now reigns unconquered, and his justice, mercy, and truth will fill the earth.

14

Emmanuel
God with us

“‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall give birth to a son. They shall call his name Immanuel,’ which is, being interpreted, ‘God with us.’”Matthew 1:23

The distance is crossed from God’s side. In Jesus, God does not send comfort from afar; he comes to dwell among us, sharing our flesh, entering our sorrow, and bringing us into his presence.

15

The Son
of Man

“For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”Mark 10:45

Jesus takes the royal title of Daniel’s heavenly ruler and joins it to the path of a servant. His glory is revealed in giving himself: the King stoops, serves, and ransoms his people.

Wonderful Counselor. Mighty God. Lamb and Shepherd. Servant and King. Jesus is worthy of every name, every crown, and every heart.
